Recognizing our efforts in coastal protection
The North American Marine Environment Protection Association (NAMEPA) has awarded Restore America’s Estuaries with the 2018 Non-Profit Marine Environment Protection Award.
The first NAMEPA Marine Environment Protection Award was presented 10 years ago, shortly after the founding of the organization in 2007. Today, NAMEPA is a marine industry-led organization of environmental stewards preserving the marine environment by promoting sustainable marine industry best practices and educating seafarers, students and the public about the need and strategies for protecting global ocean, lake and river resources.
These awards are given in multiple categories in recognition of an organization’s efforts in environmental stewardship as exemplified by a commitment to a program which has specific objectives set for environmental performance and improvement, and which is innovative and goes beyond minimum environmental compliance.
Jeff Benoit, president and CEO of RAE, accepted the award on behalf of his staff and partners. The ceremony was kicked off by the NAMEPA annual conference, at which sustainable shipping was a key topic, and ended with an awards dinner aboard the Hornblower Infinity in New York City.
“It’s an honor to be recognized in this way,” Jeff said of the award. “RAE works collaboratively across all channels, whether nonprofit or for-profit, to better protect and restore our nation’s coasts. It’s great to know that this dedicated effort has been successful.”
RAE looks forward to partnering with NAMEPA in future collaborations. The cross between industry and science is key to protecting our estuaries long term.
