2022 RAE Coastal & Estuarine Summit Draws Robust, Innovative Proposal Submissions

By Rob Shane

April 22nd marked the close of submissions for presentation proposals at the 2022 RAE Coastal & Estuarine Summit to be hosted in New Orleans this December 4-8.

On the heels of record turnout at the 2020 Summit and our 2021 Living Shorelines Tech Transfer workshop, the 2022 Summit is already shaping up to surpass participation at previous events.

“The cross-cutting theme for the Summit is ‘Resilient Coasts. Resilience Communities’ and we are pleased to see the breadth and depth of innovative proposals and new voices that address the needs of our estuaries and coastal communities” said Hilary Stevens, head of the Summit Program Committee.

As of the deadline, we have received more than 350 submissions for presentations, posters, and dedicated sessions. Highlights include proposals focused on engaging historically marginalized communities in coastal restoration, implementing nature-based solutions in coastal management and policy, and advancing the science of blue carbon. We were also excited to see broad representation from each the East, West, and Gulf coasts.

Although the portal to submit oral presentations has closed, you can still submit a Poster for this year’s Summit. This is a great opportunity for students, early career professionals, and academics to engage in dialogue with decision makers and restoration professionals.

Don’t miss your chance to capitalize on savings for this year’s Summit – join our mailing list here and get the latest updates on registration, sponsorship, and other opportunities.

Be sure to stay tuned to RAE media channels for important dates in the future. We expect early bird registration to begin in mid-June and last until October and hope to make announcements on scholarship opportunities in the coming months.

Additionally, we have seen an influx of sponsorships in the past two months, including NOAA, the Island Foundation, Stantec, Reef Innovations, HDR, and Woods Hole Group committing to support this year’s Summit.

We can’t wait to see you all in New Orleans.
